New Design Submissions

We are always looking for artists to collaborate with us on exciting and innovative new designs.

Some of our most successful watches have been designed by artists who reached out to us with a proposal.

If you’d like to submit your work for consideration please read our guidelines below and send an email with your concept to: info@mrjoneswatches.com

Guidelines

  • We’d recommend you spend time on the narrative and concept as it is very important when we assess a design. This should provide us an idea of your inspiration and story behind the design. It doesn’t need to be long, a sentence or two will do, but it is really important.
  • Don’t worry if you aren’t an already established artist or creator, the most important factors in moving your design forward will be a strong concept and a distinctive style.
  • Be ambitious! We love a technical challenge and welcome design elements that may not yet be in our collection.
  • Be creative: we want to be surprised by your design, don’t feel boxed in by what you already see on our website.
  • We don’t expect you to know exactly how your work will translate into a watch. We are really expert at translating a design into the technical elements needed for production.
  • Don’t be disheartened if your submission is rejected - we receive a very high volume of design submissions and only a tiny percentage are taken forward to be produced as designs. Also you are welcome to submit again in the future.

As you can imagine, we receive a very high volume of design submissions so it isn’t always possible to provide you with detailed individual feedback, however we will get back to you with a definitive decision as soon as possible (usually within a month).

FAQs

Q: What file format should I submit my idea in?

A: Please submit your idea in either JPEG, PNG or PDF format.

Q: Do I have to be an established artist?

A: You don’t have to be an established or working artist, but we would ask that you are able to realise your design through a coherent sketch and provide creative input during the sampling process.

Q: Can you produce a one-off, custom design just for me or my organisation?

A: Sorry, we do not produce one-off watches or exclusive runs of watches for individuals or organisations.

Q: Do you have an in-house design team / can I work at MJW as a designer?

A: We do not have a working team of designers here at MJW, just a large team of creatives who do everything from print-making and watch assembly to digital artworking.

Our production team works with external artists & designers to get everything right. However, many of our employees have gone on to design watches for us! If you are interested in our career opportunities, please see our current vacancies here.

Q: Can my design be inspired by an already famous artwork or image?

A: All artwork is inspired by somewhere! You can take inspiration from anything that excites you, but we cannot reproduce already existing artwork.

Q: Do you pay artists if their design is successful?

A: Yes! We pay a design fee to the artists and then royalties on any watches sold if it is released into the permanent collection.

Q: When can I expect a decision, or when should I check back in?

A: As you can imagine, we receive a high volume of emails regarding watch ideas, unfortunately it is not always possible to get back to everyone with detailed individual feedback, however we aim to get back to you with a definitive decision as soon as possible (usually within a month).
