Limited edition number 81 of the discontinued: Average Days
The dial of this watch visualises statistical research into how the average person spends their time. The slot on the hour-disc shows what the average person is doing at that time of the day. You can see at any time how you measure up to this notional individual.
The data for Average Days was compiled for us by Professor Jonathan Gershuny, he started to study time-use in the 1970s. The Multinational Time Use Study that emerged from his early work now includes accounts of more than 800,000 days, covering the period from 1961 to 2013.
The watch uses a 24 hour mechanism which means the hour hand makes one complete rotation in 24 hours. The watch is read slightly differently from a regular (12 hour) watch as detailed above. The minute hand works in the conventional manner, so it makes one revolution of the dial every 60 minutes.
