Record Geneve Datofix

£ 495

This is a 1950s Record Geneve automatic with a stainless steel case. Record were one of the top Swiss brands during the first half of the twentieth century, they developed a number of innovative products such as the Datofix and were taken over in 1961 by Longines who absorbed their personnel and knowledge into their products.

This particular watch is an interesting example of Record’s output - it features their automatic movement (calibre 174) in a sort of dive-watch case. I say sort of because it is a waterproof case and a movable bezel, but the crown doesn’t screw down and it lacks the clear luminous hands of a genuine dive watch. I guess on balance it’s a dress-dive watch, rather than an out-and-out dive watch! It’s been difficult to find much information about this particular model as Record used the “datofix” name on their line of triple-calendar watches.

The movement is very well built and shows some real originality - the automatic winding system is certainly different from any other Swiss watch of this period and it performs very well. The dial is a lovely example for a vintage watch - it bears some signs of age as befits a watch that's over 60 years old, but is still clear and legible.

The stainless steel case is in really good condition, the watch has its original signed crown and we’ve fitted a new, vintage steel strap. The movement has been fully serviced and the timekeeping is very good indeed. The case has been ultrasonically cleaned, but as with all out vintage watches we have left it unpolished. The crystal has been replaced. The watch comes with our standard 12 month guarantee.
